Camel Milk and Dairy Protein Allergy

Camel Milk and Dairy Protein Allergy

Vanessa Schimpf has suffered from an allergy to cow’s milk protein for much of her adult life. She recently tried Camel Milk. Here’s her story:

“For much of my adult life, I have suffered from a dairy allergy, specifically, an allergy to cows milk protein. My allergy is so severe that if I so much as have a teaspoon of dairy product, I can easily be sick with severe headaches and vomiting for up to a month. I used to be able to have dairy products and really enjoyed them, so it has been quite difficult for me personally to be able to only have plant-based milks.

Recently I came across a post on Facebook advertising camel milk from Summer Land Camels and noticed that many people had good experiences with not just the taste but some people also claimed that it was suitable for people with dairy allergies.

I decided that I would take the plunge and try some for myself. The bottle of milk arrived in lovely, neat packaging and my first taste of camel milk was a pleasant surprise. My personal opinion of camel milk is that it tasted about 70% of the same taste as cow's milk, however not quite as creamy. After trying it a few ways, I felt the real test would be to cook with it as I often have run into trouble with plant milks being too sticky and gluggy in the things I make.

The food I made with it turned out perfect as it would with cow's milk. My three sons, an 11-year-old and 8-year-old twins, also tried it out and it passed the taste test for all of them.

One of my twins can only have a limited amount of dairy as with too much, he gets something called mesenteric adenitis and it causes him abdominal pain. He also felt no side effects from the camel milk.

Finally, after consuming a whole litre of camel milk, I found that I did not experience any of the negative health effects that I get from cow's milk. For me, this is a dream come true. I would encourage everyone who has dairy allergies to give Summer Land Camel Milk a try as it can potentially open up a whole new set of possibilities of what can be eaten.

Thank you Summer Land Camels, I now have the option to have something I never thought possible; the possibility of having real, refreshing milk.”
