Things To Do These School Holidays: Summer Land Camels And The Surrounding Area

Make it a day trip to Harrisville and the surrounding area

The school holidays are here! That means it’s time to get the kids or the grand kids out into the fresh country air and cuddling up to cute big and small animals that will sure put a smile on their faces. We’ve put together a farm animal road trip that adults and kids will enjoy.

Stop 1 – Summer Land Camel Farm

You could easily spend a couple of hours at Summer Land Camels. Our farm, located in Harrisville, is approximately 30 minutes from Ipswich, 45 minutes from Brisbane CBD and just over an hour from Toowoomba and the Gold Coast.

As you drive into Summer Land Camels, you will begin to hear the excitement in your children as they see our magnificent camels in the front paddocks. Driving towards our Homestead to park your car, you will be greeted by the beautiful mountain range of Flinders Peak, and other natural beauties of the Scenic Rim.

We’re open daily from 9am to 3pm (kitchen closes at 2pm) for camel cuddles and feeding, farm tours and camel rides.

Each school holidays, we have a special kid's day - our Little Farmer Humpty Day (Autumn, Winter and Spring holidays) and our Little Humpty's Christmas Party (Summer holidays). Check out our Facebook page and website for information and bookings.

During school holidays, we have Camel Rides every day (bookings essential) and we have a special offer on our Tour, Taste & Camel Encounter: Kids get HALF PRICE tickets during school holidays. Use the code HOLIDAYS when booking online.

Did we say gelato? Yes! And everyday throughout the school holidays, you can treat yourself and the kids to $1 camel milk gelato. The beauty of camel milk gelato is that it doesn’t contain beta-lactoglobulin so it is suitable for most people with dairy sensitivities.  No one needs to miss out on this special treat.

If gelato is not your thing, you can order a camel milk coffee (camel-chino), sit back on our verandah and watch the kids feed the camels for just a few dollars per bag of feed. You can also enjoy a delicious breakfast or brunch, as you soak in the fresh country air and become engulfed by the beauty that surrounds our property. Check out our new menu here.

One last thing to do while visiting ... a selfie with a camel!  Your camel experience is now done. Where to next?

Stop 2 – Haigslea EWE Nique Hobby Farm

Head towards Ipswich from Harrisville to visit another member of the Camelidae family – Alpacas. Haigslea Hobby Farm will be open every day throughout the school holidays. Children will be delighted to meet alpacas (a camel cousin), sheep, goats, geese and chickens. Farm tours operate daily at 9am, 10:30am and 1pm. Bookings are required. For more information, please visit their Facebook page.

Stop 3 - The Llama Farm, Pine Mountain

Approximately 15 minutes from Haigslea, make your way to the Llama Farm in Pine Mountain and visit another camel relative, the llama. Home to the largest herd of llamas in Queensland, the farm is also home to donkeys, miniature ponies, peacocks, geese, turkeys and sheep, and is open daily for the first week of the school holidays. They offer two different experiences to guests being farm visits and guided llama walks (8 years and over). Bookings in advance via email, social media message or phone call. On Thursday 24th September, they will be hosting the Little Llama Farmer’s Children Workshop, with tickets available via Eventbrite.  Please visit the Llama Farm’s Facebook page for more details or email info@thellamafarm.com.au.
