Accessible Tourism at Summer Land Camels

Summer Land Camels is passionate about connecting individuals and communities with Australian Camels. We endeavour to offer accessible and inclusive experiences, providing all visitors with the opportunity to get up close and personal with these beautiful animals.

We often have carers bring their NDIS clients to the farm to interact with our lovely camels. We recently received this story from Fiona from Cherie's Country Care

"Upon arriving at Summer Land Camel Farm entrance, we were greeted with many camels, big and small, lined up watching us drive by - what a beautiful sight!

Once parked up, we watched a group of visitors climbing onto camels for their ride. We then headed to the gift shop looking at all the different products made from camel milk.

We then went upstairs to the restaurant where I showed Eric, my participant, all the different products that you can buy to eat.

We found a seat outside with a lovely view of the camels in the paddock, we ordered a chocolate camel milk shake and a latte that came with a cinnamon camel shape on it - this was fun to see for both of us! While having our drinks, we read many fun facts about camels.

After watching visitors feeding the camels, Eric decided to join in the fun, we purchased a bag of hay and off we went to be greeted by many camels. This was a great interactive and fun, hands on learning experience for my participant.

To finish off our visit, we sat under a big, shaded tree in the outside eating area watching the camels walking up and down and being fed by more visitors - this was enjoyable and relaxing for Eric."

Camel Encounters

Camel Rides

We have had people with a range of disabilities take part in our camel rides and our staff are skilled at assessing safety and suitability requirements.  We regularly receive praise for our staff for the caring way they look after our visitors with special needs.

Parents of children with autism or anxiety are often hesitant to book a camel ride because they are not sure how their child will react to the size of the camels.  We are often asked what happens if their child changes their mind and doesn’t want to ride.  If this happens then we are happy to issue a credit voucher in our café or store credit for the amount of the ride.

While we don't accept companion cards for Camel Rides, in some circumstances, our cameleers can allow a parent or carer to walk alongside the camels so that they remain in verbal and visual contact with the participant.
