Does Camel Milk help with Dandruff and Other Scalp Problems?
“I had a dry flaky scalp with a few bumps before and I started using Summer Land Camels Shampoo and Conditioner. I realized after a couple of months that my scalp had completely cleared up. I then ran out of the Shampoo and Conditioner and used another brand for a month or so. My scalp became very inflamed again –itchy and this time I had quite bad dandruff. I went back to the Camel Milk products and my scalp started to improve again. This time it took longer to heal because it was so bad. I used the Conditioner as a leave-in conditioner to get the maximum benefits and after about three and a half months, my scalp is great again. No more flaking or dandruff.” Katherine B.
Everyone wants healthy, beautiful, shining hair but did you know that it is actually your scalp health that needs the most attention?

Like our skin and gut, our scalp also has its own microbiome which includes the billions of living bacteria, fungi, viruses and insects that work synergistically with your own body to keep you healthy and looking great.
In addition to this, we have about 100,000 hair follicles, each of which goes deep into our scalp and has it’s own microbiome. So it makes sense that the health and balance of the skin, scalp and hair follicle microbiome is of utmost importance.
Poor scalp health is a factor that often leads to issues such as dandruff, seborrheic dermatitis, atopic dermatitis, and psoriasis and may also lead to premature hair loss.
Our modern society has become obsessed with being “clean” but that is often at the cost of good health. If your scalp microbiome gets out of balance it will affect your dermis and epidermis, your immune system and often leads to a dry itchy flaking scalp, dandruff or inflammatory skin conditions like eczema and psoriasis.
Camel Milk is called a “superfood for your skin”, and this certainly applies to the skin on your scalp as well!
Symptoms of an unhealthy scalp
Common symptoms of an unhealthy scalp include:
- bumps on the scalp
- extreme oiliness
- hair loss
Balance is the key when it comes to a healthy scalp microbiome and Camel Milk can provide that balance as it is a prebiotic for the skin and scalp. Camel Milk provides nutrients and food for the skin flora which can help maintain a healthy balance.
Malassezia is a fungus present on both healthy and unhealthy skin and is thought to be a natural part of human skin flora. However, overgrowth of this fungus causes problems and is associated with a variety of skin diseases such as psoriasis, eczema, cradle cap, seborrheic dermatitis and dandruff.
Malassezia is most likely to be found in oily parts of the skin, including the scalp, as it feeds off the fatty acids present in normal sebum (oil).
This fungus is often treated with antifungals in lotions or shampoos however commonly used antifungal drugs do not completely eradicate Malassezia and their populations rebound once such treatments are discontinued.
Camel Milk Actives Beneficial for the Scalp
Camel Milk is an amazing ingredient for good scalp health. Camel milk contains vitamins, minerals, phospholipids, essential fatty acids, alpha hydroxy acids, immune proteins and prebiotics (food for your skin biome). Camel milk supports and promotes a healthy, biodiverse biome, reduces inflammation and stimulates your body to generate healthy skin and hair.
Camel milk has antifungal, antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties
Camel Milk naturally contains many actives that have antifungal, antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties. These include immunoglobulins, lactoferrin and capric, caprylic, caproic and myristic acids that are found in the make-up of the milk.
Camel Milk is also highly moisturizing as it contains lauric acid, oleic acid (Omega 9), phospholipids and potassium.
Vitamins for your scalp
Camel milk is rich in vitamins and minerals that are supportive of the skins natural
immune and regenerative functions. It contains vitamins A, B1, B2, B3, B5, B6, B9, B12, C, D and E.
Vitamin B9 (Folic Acid):
Folic acid maintains cell production in the body. This influences our body's ability to grow healthy skin and hair. Folic acid is responsible to make new cells and tissues in the body, which promotes skin, hair and nail growth.

All natural ingredients
All our products are natural and contain no PARABENS, PETROCHEMICALS, SLS, SULPHATES, SYNTHETIC FRAGRANCES - No nasties! Because our shampoo contains no sulfates you need to shake it well before use.
Now let’s talk about lather. Even though everyone loves a good lather, it doesn’t reflect the effectiveness of the cleaning properties of the product. High lather products are usually artificially produced by use of cheap chemicals such as sulfates purely to meet consumer expectation. These ingredients will not help your scalp health but are actually part of the problem.
Other factors that impact the ability to lather are temperature and water hardness. Warm water will create more lather than cold water. Soft water will enable the shampoo to lather more than hard or mineralized water meaning that rainwater is usually better than town water.
Another tip to get a good lather is to put a very small amount of Shampoo through your hair and wash it out and then apply the normal amount of product and wash your hair normally.
To maximise all the amazing benefits of Camel Milk and to ensure a highly moisturized scalp and hair, don’t wash out the conditioner. You won’t find any greasy residue on your towel or in your hair but it does mean that your hair will take a little longer to dry.
Not a quick fix
Our Camel Milk Hair Products are not chemical based and contain no medications so they are not a quick fix. It takes time for your skin and scalp microbiome to be restored but if you are looking for a natural alternative to help your hair and scalp health then it is worth being patient.
More tips for healthy hair
As well as using natural and nourishing hair products you should also wash your hair gently rather than scrubbing it. Consider washing your hair less often. Get plenty of rest and try to manage your stress well. Make sure you have a healthy diet high in antioxidants and Omega 3. Try taking a probiotic as gut health impacts on skin, scalp and hair health. (Consuming Camel Milk is great for gut health.)
